What Rev. Case VanKempen said:
"A few years ago, shortly after moving to Holland, Michigan, a couple in my congregation invited my wife Leigh and me to participate in a weekend experience called Worldwide Marriage Encounter. At the time, we knew very little about Worldwide Marriage Encounter; we had heard of it before, and had a vague notion that it was a good thing (sort of the way I’ve always thought about Disney World as being a good thing, without ever actually visiting the place), but we had never made any effort to find out more about it.
About two months after the invitation, we attended a Worldwide Marriage Encounter weekend at Camp Geneva in Holland, MI. It was, without a doubt, the most valuable investment of a weekend that we had ever made (I don’t think even Disney World could top this). We thought we had a good marriage before the weekend - and we did - but Worldwide Marriage Encounter helped us celebrate our relationship and achieve a new depth in our communication which we may never have achieved on our own.
Since that original weekend, Leigh and I became involved in Worldwide Marriage Encounter as a presenting couple; this means that we helped facilitate the weekends. In everything we’ve done in ministry, I don’t think any time has been as well spent as the time we spent in Worldwide Marriage Encounter.
The reason I am writing this letter is to endorse Reformed Worldwide Marriage Encounter and to say that if you have the chance to attend a weekend, or to encourage others to attend, by all means do so! Your marriage, and the marriages of your parishioners are worth it!
The Worldwide Marriage Encounter experience is firmly grounded in God’s Word. Even though Worldwide Marriage Encounter began as a Roman Catholic movement, it has translated well into the Reformed expression. It is not a retreat, and not a workshop; there are no "touchy-feely" group activities. It truly is best described as an "encounter" between husband, wife, and God. Again, if a Worldwide Marriage Encounter weekend is offered in you area, or even if you have to drive some distance, I encourage you or your parishioners to take part. There is nothing else like it!"
